I just picked up a '68 coupe project after regrettably selling my '66 a while back. Yet again, it has front drum brakes (Why can't I ever seem to find a car with discs already on it?!) and I'd like to put discs on it. This is just going to be a daily driver/cruiser, so no fancy stuff needed here.My only requirement is that this is all factory Mustang stuff, no swaps or parts off of 6 different car models.

I've done some research, and it seems that '68 was the year that crossed over to single piston calipers. But, from what I've read, '68 also had a drum spindle and a disc spindle, and in order to use the single piston calipers, I need '68 disc spindles. Is this correct? If so, it looks like my only option automatically becomes a '67 KH 4 piston setup, which supposedly fits fine on the '68 drum spindle.

If all the info I've received so far is correct, where is the best place to buy the KH setup from, and why? Also, the car is currently manual brakes with a C4 transmission. Is it worth upgrading to power brakes at this time?

I wish I could help you more, I'm running 4 wheel disc brakes with no power brakes in my '68. It stops ok, but I'll be upgrading to power brakes soon, just take a lot of effort to keep the pedal depressed. I used the disc brake setup from mustang steve, so I have the brakes from a 1994 cobra. I'm using the drum spindles up front, I don't know if there are different spindles for disc vs drum. If you don't want to search around then maybe just order a full assembly from SSBC or any of the other companies you will find advertised in Mustang Monthly.

i was just online the other night looking at the 4 piston kelsy hays type brake kit
i think it was mustangs unlimited.the kit for 65-68 spindles was around $600 .i think this is the way i am going to go on my nephews 64 1/2. i have had cars with this brake set up they work great but require a little more pressure to push than power. the brakes will lock up if needed. its a fiarly simple bolt on kit.

CSRP sells everything you will need for $524.
Very high quality and great value. Give Dennis a call and he will answer all of your questions about the KH brakes (factory) in his kit.
I am very happy with my conversion!

I seem to remember the kit I ended up with on my '66 was CSRP, and it was pretty nice. I'll have to give them a call in the morning and see if they have a power brake kit compatible with a T5 swap. I ended up with a late model Tremec T5 yesterday for a steal, so that's something else I'll have to work with.

I talked to someone at CSRP, and they said with a '68, I can convert to the KH brakes with a power booster conversion, and the cable clutch conversion will clear it. They also said the kit comes with a new pedal, so I will order this kit along with the Mustang Steve cable kit, after I get done rebuilding the rear axle.
