I got the tool from Autozone and I put the bolt into the shaft and then start turning the nut to move the washers into the pulley, but everytime the threads on the bolt are stripping. At first I thought it was the bolt(Grade2) but then I got a Grade 5 and the same thing happened. Is it possible that the threads in the shaft are stripped? This is a new remanufactured Cardone pump. I really don't want to have to get a new one cause I already had this one painted. Any ideas?

Thanks
Dave

Yeah you need the special tool to install it. If you buy a puller, you'll have the fittings in it to put it back on obviously.

Yeah I have the tool, but the bolt that threads into the shaft of the pump keeps stripping.

lets see which tool you have.... there are like two different kinds. I used some threaded rod and made my own with a bearing two washers, and a nut to tighten it with.

I would run a tap in there to clean the threads at least, you already know the count/pitch etc. right? It should thread down in there at least like 3/4"

I just tapped the shaft and pulled the pulley off (it was half way on) and noticed that the diameter of the pulley hole might be a little tighter than the factory one. It's the Wazee pulley. I'm done working on it for today, but tomorrow I'll get a caliper and measure both pulleys.

Can you heat the pulley and cool the pump's shaft (being careful of seals and whatnot)?

Stock pulley hubs tend to kind of mushroom and wont go back on, but Wazee's stuff (Though I havent used it) sounds like nice quality stuff.

Good luck.

Yeah the wazee pulley looks like a quality piece. I'm gonna check the diameters but thats a good idea on heating the pulley. Thanks
