All you guys with aftermarket hoods and/or kits even

Did you get your hood painted to match your car or did you just get the whole car repainted?

My old hood flew off kinda so i replaced with cobra rr hood, its black and my car is red, but its ****ty black and scratched up

Dunno If i should try and get it paint matched b/c my paint is 11 yr old and dulling or if i should save up (will be at least a year) and get full body painted. What did you guys pay for a full paint job?
if you got just hood painted what did you pay for that?

I had just my hood and wing done, the shop used a computer to match the paint, they also touched upa couple rough spots on the body, then rubbed out the whole thing, looks great. I was going to do a full repaint, but the owner of the shop talked me OUT of it, since I drive the car pretty regular, he figures if someone spends the kind of money it takes to repaint a whole car right, they will go crazy trying to protect it.. could be true. I got 4 estimates on the whole car paint job ranging from $3000 to $4500. It does depend partly on what color your car is in the first place also. Laser red is a tri-coat... more $$$

Funny you mention that, my Cobra RR hood fell off so I went back to stock! ANyway, a good body shop will match the paint as is. They should match the texture as well as the tone even if it's slightly faded.

another option is to try and ratttle can it yoruself (ppg has good paints online) and then save for a full paintjob later. I did the PPG route for a bad fender on a sebring and it matched perfect colorwise, but the texture of the clear was off slightly... in 95% of the lighting situations you couldn't even detect it...

**** 3k for a paintjob? I was thinking of just going straight black as far as paint job...maybe i should just what did a paint matched hood run you to paint guys?

3K is cheap for a GOOD paint job...you'd be amazed at the hours involved for a nice paint job...thats why they're so freakin expensive..
Black is not a quickie paint by any means...Its one of the nastier colors...your body/prep has got to be mint or it'll show everything...
You should be able to find someone to just shoot the hood for cheap money...matching it to your faded paint is gonna be tough...Personally I wouldn't do spray can on a new hood...Unless your flat broke, thats a rookie move...

3K is the starting point for a good paint job... we are talking removing the bumpers and trim and the sail panels and the hood and trunk and wing...etc... there are lots of guys out there who have spent a LOT more on paint. Heck my brother put nearly 8k into the bodywork and paint on his '67fastback... but he doesn't drive it much.. only if the weather is perfect...lol

I've been painting cars for about 3 years now and $3k at our shop is a bottom of the barrel paint job. The last mustang we painted was a 89GT I think and even for him i think his was around 6k. YOu have to understand your car isn't going to be perfect rust and bodywork wise. It might look good right now but you never know. It all depends too if your getting the same color on your car or an entire color change. I did a color change on one of my own cars before and I'll never do it again. Also I'd never paint a car black. If you had to buff them like I do you'd understand why, lol.

well i wouldnt mind a repaint of my color either i guess...but still if 3k is bottom of the barrel stuff then um maybe i'll worry about appearence last lol
3k and i can do an h/c/i

So, anyone who has the answer; how much would it cost to have a quarter panel repainted? Mine has been repainted before by a previous owner. Whatever shop did it did a pretty crappy job, but the rest of my paint is pretty nice.

Damn, I'm definitely lucky. My Dad's cousin is gonna repaint my 94 convert at his shop for 2k. And that's with a few dents and Laser red. The 2 other places I went to wanted 4-5k. I laughed at them. Oh well, thank God for hook-ups!!
