Hi guys, I've decided that before i start putting my car together that i'm gonna do a tubular K-member. I like the price of the QA1 and was wondering if anyone has experience good and or bad with the unit? I'd like to go coil overs eventually, but will probably use the spring perches for regular springs to start with. I really want the MM k-member, but its a little too hard core for me and the price is kinda outta my budget too. I'm planning this car to be somewhat of a 1/4 mile car, but also like to corner hard at times......

I put the complete QA1 kit(save for hpm cc plates) in my coupe a few months ago..bolted up with no problems. This K member will move the front wheels forward roughly 1/2"-3/4". I have slight tire rub when turning, but of course it isn't aligned.

I finally got around to getting the driveline back in the car over the weekend...for some reason i had to use the set back holes in the k, even then i just barely got the tranny crossmember to bolt up to the trans mount...without elongating the holes. There was no way with the front engine mount holes..hate finding things out this way, but oh well. I'm thinking it has to be the moroso solid mounts that moved everything forward...stock bell and T-5...with an R block.

All this so a guy can come pick the coupe up next weekend...looks to be sold.

Wheel base length

that was one of my exact questions. The Qa1 k is modified geometry from stock, so the front wheels are moved forward. Did they put the motor mounts in the same place as stock then? Do you have to start worring about any other clearance items then? I was hoping to just buy one of these, install it, drop the motor/tranny/shaft right in......If you move the tranny forward does that mean you need to lengthen the drive shaft? I know they make spacers for them.......i'm just trying to get a grip on what all is involved...

thanks
Joe

I like my profab. It bolted up very nicely and smoothly. The one PITA i had was that the motor mount nut can get a little close to all the power steering lines and what not.

Tons of header clearance. Runnig a 1 3/4 primary tube. Starter is also super easy to change. No tire rubbing issues either.

Had the same issues with the QA1 and the power steering hard lines when this K was in my buddies car...manual rack is the fix for me.

The mount issue i had, has to be related to either the moroso solid mounts or the R block. Thats the only things not stock. Buddy of mine use the QA1 with stock mounts, block, bell, trans, etc and it went in front mount slots(standard). So thats where i put it originaly, and of course using logic thinking the setback would....tada..setback the engine causing the driveshaft to need shortened. Nope, needed to use the setback holes just to get the trans mount lined up..driveshaft fit perfect.

Do a search on the many mustang sites to see if upr has ever had any fitment issues.

Man, you'll get this with almost any product...many a time its user error. I'm not bashing upr or your buddy. From what i hear, the best k member period is the pa unit. Also, where do you think my QA1 came from. Don't think i'm bashing AFM either, hell i live about 3 minutes from the place and am there on a frequent basis. I've got buddies that are techs, hell i've even on occasion hung out with Rick. I respect his opinion, he's been in the game a long time.

I may be wrong...but doesn't moly fatigue over time?? Could have swore i heard this somewhere.

Dont listen to Jason at all, he has never been at AFM. Never has he been in a magazine testing exhaust and a RPMII intake. Dont listen to him at all, Wild to see that you wont have the coupe anymore. How long will it be before something new moves in?

Also, im too poor to buy aftermarket K-members(there I kept it tech)

Yes, i thought i just heard that it fatigued? Why do chromoly cages need recertification after time..is their no truth to this? I am no metalurgist by far. Just curious about why they choose to use chromoly thats all.

AJE k-member

Ok, so i read the threads in the link that noslo listed above, and now i'm i not sure which frickin k-member to buy. I'd like to support AJE, but i'll have to email them and ask a bunch of questions about what mods need to accompany their k-member. I was onto the UPR for a minute until the guy from MM asked if it was heat treated.......

I just don't want to buy a k-member that causes so much frickin grief with adjustments that it causes more time, money and effort then its worth.

Joe
