don't want to hijack the post, but it's related. Are the aftermarket heads available for the 4.6 all basically PI heads that are ported? Or are there heads with modified combustion chambers, larger valves, etc?

There are no aftermarket heads for mod motors. There are PI and SVO Heads (big Money + you need an install kit for 99+) not worth it. Just get a stage II port on some PI's.

Pretty proud of where my T&J ported heads have helped take my car to. www.modularfordpowerhouse.com

Fwiw, I have a friend with the Patriot heads on his 560 rwhp GT. They'll work.

I have the Patriot Stage II's - I'll simply tell you my story, but I recommend giving Terry a call or e-mailing him with any questions. He's a stand-up guy. twilkes@patriot-performance.com

I had the heads installed and noticed an oil consumption issue (about a quart in 300 miles). I took it in and at first we thought it was valve seals. Terry sent out new seals at no charge overnight. We then discovered a great deal of play in the guides. At this point, Terry sent call tags for the heads and is going to completely go through them and replace anything out of spec, etc. He is also picking up a portion of the labor for the re-install. If necessary, he has commited to replace the heads completely.

I believe for the price of the heads Patriot has gone as far as any customer can expect. Terry and Don have been helpful beyond belief. My investment will be a small portion of the labor and replacement of the gaskets/head bolts.

Like I say, my recommendation would be to give him a call and ask him a few questions.

I searched and compared price to flow numbers, they are the best valus that i found based only on flow numbers and price. Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords used them on their project car with comp cams and gain 100rwhp. Of course thats on a supercharged car, but thats a huge gain. I plan on going with them as well. On the MM&FF car they needed some explorer parts because i believe patriot uses explorer heads. So they need explorer valve covers and a few other small thing i believe, but I could be wrong.

they are a good value, but other people have higher flowing "stage II" heads. so it's up to you if you are satisfied with the flow of the Patriot heads or not. you can also check out Fox Lake Racing. they have higher flowing heads, but are a little more in $$.

Yea, fox lakes number look good, as well as T&Js, the best I have seen, but patriot are the cheapest of those 3 as far as I know. Also with the Patriot its no core exchange so you could get a few bucks for your current heads from someone with a pre 99.
