Question about 85/86 notchback rareity?

Hey guys, I kind of stumbled upon a 85 5.0/5spd Notchback that is completely original (have original wheels with it) and in amazing condition. It's the last year carbureted has defrost delete, all manual doors/locks, and just pure awesome.

I was looking around and I barely ever see the 85/86 notchbacks, it seems they are all hatchbacks. Were not a lot of these made?

I'm not selling the car, but this is a curiosity thing. You guys think the values of the 85/86 will be similar to the aero cars?

I was told you could order the rear window without the defroster lines. This car doesn't have those.

Well, kinda right, I believe it was an option, rear defrost was not standard equipment.

Their value will be more. Does this car have AC ? Full manual 5 speed 5.0 notch that hasn't been molested is rare. Most were worn out on the track or euro nose swapped. That 4 eye look is truly classic. Wish we hadn't gotten rid of my wife's 82.

Yeah, working AC. I always thought the aero cars were worth more. I haven't seen one like mine for sale yet though.

There were 57,000 coupe made in 1985, 36% of total production.
There were 84,000 coupes made in 1986, 37% of production.

There were 24,000 coupes made in 1993, 21% of production
There were 15,000 coupes made in 1992, 20% of production
There were 19,000 coupes made in 1991.

Long story short, there were more coupes made in 85/86 than in 91-93. Not rare. Uncommon? yes. Desireable? Depends on the person as it's subjective. There are people out there who lose their poop over 4-eye notchbacks, especially those with T-tops.

Count me in that group. I’ve always preferred the four eye to the aero nose cars in every respect. I even like the interior better.

The 82 GT is my favorite body style. Second favorite are 87 - 93 GT convertibles. I've owned them both....and got rid of them. The 87 to 93 LX coupe has always been my least favorite...but the strongest body.

I'm going to point out the elephant in the room by saying:

Damn... That's a nice looking 4-eye.

That paint looks like it could be brought back.

Ya, that's a very cool look. It would be difficult to not "aero" it by replacing the quarter glass and interior. I'd leave the nose alone, but the rest in my opinion would be a hard fought battle to not convert.

LoL... I'm on the other side. Aero's were made to be 4-eyes.

I've often debating putting a 85/86 GT nose (with the lower Marchall fog lamps) on my '88. If it didn't require a hood change, I might have....

I just prefer the 87+ interior much more than the 4-eye interior

I have an ?84 Notchback made in Mexico and metric speedometer, etc. My question is why the '84 is not included in the 85/86 considered rare? Is the 84 different then 85/86 in body?

There were 38,000 coupes made in 1984. Not rare, although unknown how many are Mexican exports.

1984 has cosmetic differences vs the 85/85 body. The nose being the major difference. 79-84 went through a few changes as Ford was trying to find the right look for the early Fox. 85-86, other than the addition of the 3rd brake light in 1986, were the same look, and very popular

From the small cross-section of samples that I have to compare to those numbers, about half of them are wrong.

Just in the 1985 model year alone the 1B SVO number is wrong and the SVO total is worng, but the rest of the SVO numbers are correct. And the total 5.0L coupe (P26M) number is wrong and the total 5.0L convertible (P27M) number is wrong.

P28T (SVO) 1B = 337
P28T (SVO) total = 1954

P26M (5.0L coupe) total = 2285
P27M (5.0L convertible) total = 6997

Interesting discussion. I bought my ‘86 GT in late September, 1986. I bought the ‘86 because I’d seen photos of the ‘87s and liked the ‘86 better. The ‘87 aero nose was OK, but not the stuff on the sides and back.
