I'm trying to install UPR's anodized auto shifter knob. I've got the little screw out of the back of the stock knob. but I can't get the knob to unscrew. It won't budge. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?
I thought I posted a reply to this the other day but maybe not.
Once the set screw is loose, you can remove the stock knob by twisting it left/right a little and CAREFULLY lifting it up. It will come off. You have to be careful not to pull it up quickly or you could break the OD switch wire. There is a plastic sleeve that covers the metal shift tube and hides the wire. The sleeve will probably stay stuck in the handle but it will pull out easily once the stock knob is off.
*edit* I forgot to mention that this works much better if you put the car in 1st (lever all the way towards the back). Of course, only do this while the car is OFF/engine not running! *end of edit*
