I have a stock 1992 naturally asperated 2.3L mustang and I am planning on putting on a differant stock intake manifold that has been ported and polished and a 65mm throttle body from a 5.0 and the adaptor plate to fit the manifold and a aftermarket cold air intake....my question is I have hurd that if i do this that my enigine will not know what to do with all of that air and will turn my check engine light on....is there anything that I can do to stop that from happening or is that just something that somebody was saying to give me a hard time...thanks for any information you have on this subject

Well I can tell you right now that you more than likely you'll see a negligible gain from the intake and throttle body. Secondly, what "different" intake are you talking about?

All that air?
What do you think the engine is being force fed?

I think you will notice a power loss right where you need it the most.
Larger intake and TB = slower moving air= less torque

If you are building a pedal to the metal drag racer than fine but for a street driven car?
The TB is sized right IMO.

The ole is the bigger TB worth it or not deal There is a thread about this already and I posted a link on where they dyno tested both TBs. I really wouldn't do much to a N/A intakes ecept clean them up a bit. Just remember to NOT make the runners to smooth like a mirror finnish or anything that carries fuel. Also the aluminum is very soft and it is easy to remove to much material and mess them up.

As for if the extra air will mess with the Check engine light. All those mods shouldn't move enough air to notice it.

I would put a cam in before TB. A237 or similar?
Check springs and/or replace as necessary

From what I understand the restriction is in the head. So, like Brantley said. I couldn't give testament tworads your mechanical abilities, or ability to port the head. You ddn't feel comfortable porting your own intake manifold The best way to get all the power you can out of your engine is to do all the standard engine stuff. High compression, big cam, lots of air/fuel, strong spark, high revs, effecient tempeature, proper lubrication, and good gas. Attain these tennants of power and your car won't idle worth ****, bu'll scream in upper rpms. Get a turbomotor, a V8, or be satisfied with a slow car with an endearing personality that is a blast to drive. If it's an auto, do a T-5 swap before you do anything else, it'll make the car way more fun.

You need to address problems the order that they come.. the stock intake tube is restriction. Ford did this intentionally to keep the intake noise down. So... yank that crap out and replace it with PVC. You're going to have to do a LOT of mods to see any gains at all from a 65mm throttle body. In stock form, you will just be wasting time and money by putting a larger TB on there. After the intake silencer, the next major restriction in the intake side of the engine is the head. The stock casting is not pretty, and with a bit of work, your car will feel totally different. Port the head, mill off some material, add an exhaust manifold, and then you might see a bit of a difference with a big TB. Of course, this is just my opinion based on my experiences.
