question about my mustang

I just bought a 2004 mustang V6 and the sticker as well as the engine label says that the car has a 3.9 liter engine. I am confused because all other mustangs have 3.8 liters.

seriously though it's true, i just went to the ford website and your new stang does have a 3.9L. i didn't know this myself until i just read your thread. but i doubt that it is any different than the 3.8's, since it is still 238 cu. in., and 193hp

in 20 years,i bet there will be a mustang monthly feature car with the "rare" '04 3.9L mustang that nobody ever heard of.i love stuff like that!i would have never even known about this small change if not for these forums.how many of these new V6 engines are going to be put into the stang??isn't production ending in may?when did they swap the 3.8?

Thats alot of different kind of cars your talking about....If you mean new ones then yes we all have them. I honestly couldn't tell you if every year mustang came with them though. And there is many aftermarket headers that people put on, that is such a broad question, you need to be more specific.

It is a 3.9 but all stats are the same as the 3.8. Kinda wierd, huh?

my dad was one of the local ford dealers and he said he saw 2 new stangs, both nearly identical except for color basically, and one said it was a 3.8 and the other was a 3.9. I told him it was mis print b/c i had never heard of such a thing. Damn, now i gotta go explain that i was wrong. and why in the hell did Ford add .1 L of displacement with no other changes, all stats are the same as before.

wow, a whole liter for 3 horsepower... maybe someday they'll kill their ***goty little automatic power sucking transmissions and bring their v6s into the real world... christ, a nissan maxima(altima) v6 has 260 horsepower.. HELLO!

On a positive note, congrats on your Mustang... despite my disdain for the automatic transmission and lack of real power... I love my Stang...

Those are 4v cars man, there is no comparison. Ford chose stick with the 3.8L pushrod to keep costs down, hence keeping sales up. I for one disagree with their business tactics, but hey, im just a student, what do I know about corporate business strategies.

First off, "wow, a whole liter for 3 horsepower" , it was not a whole liter, but .1 liter and it did not add any hp, all 2001 (1/2s) and up are rated at 193hp, i think it was something to do with a butterfly valve or something....also the extra .1 liter was due to i think if i recall correctly a little bit longer stroke, why they did it i have no idea.

Yea. They're also running a 10:1 CR. Do you want to have to fill up with premium everytime you fill your tank? At nearly $2 a gallon here, I sure as hell wouldn't.

Not unless the car is a classic, then it's worth it.

I think the idea to keep the 3.8 was smart(from the business standpoint anyway). I mean our cars are affordable, but still perform better than most cars in the price range. If you want to step up to the price range of a Nissan Maxima, you can opt for the 4.6 V8. If that's not fast enough for you, Mach I or Cobra.
You can't bash Ford for making the 3.8 somewhat anemic. It's still pretty damn quick, but if it's not fast enough for you, they give you 3 other options.

My mom has an 03 Nissan Maxima with the 3.5L and something like 255 HP. True it is built a lot better as an Engine as the 3.8L that Ford builds. like was stated before its a 4 valve engine that also likes to rev a lil more then our engines do. It is also the top of the line engine you can get in that car, where as the top engine in our car is the Cobra supercharged with (over) 390 HP.
