my gauge cluster is messed up cause the idiot i bought my car from put on white faces gauges but screwed the needles up so i dont know how accurate they are an the gauges just look like absolute crap. so question one is: if i get a new cluster with untouched needles and plug it in will they be accurate since they are untouched from the factory?

question two is: can i swap my odometer tothe new one to retain my mileage?

thanks

I have heard of guages being off from screwing up putting the needles back on wrong. So you could just take em off and put em on again.

Do you have other mods that might be affecting your speedo? ie. rear gears or bigger rims?

to the best of my knowledge, you cant move the odo.

I dont mean to speak above or below your level of knowledge. Just trying to help.

yea but how do i know where to put them?, there is no way to find out where they should all be, you see what i mean, thats why i want a new cluster so i can plug it in an they would be accurate cause they havent been taken off before. its not the speedo im worried about, i have gears an i know that is off, its my fuel level and all the other ones that seem off, i just dont trust it because he did such a crappy job of putting on the gauge faces.

Fill the gas tank near home and adjust the needle once you get home, i.e. set it to Full.

The electrical guage should be right near center, unless you've got battery, alternator, and or other electrical issues.

Someone here knows the exact rpm your car should be at with a given speed in a specific gear. This can be tricky to do, but if your idle is ok on a stock motor, then you should be idling at about 800 rpms (if you want absolute accuracy, well that's just not possible with stock guages, but you could go to a dyno if you've got a friend that owns one). Someone can correct me on the idle rpm's I'm sure.

Oil pressure is usually in the middle to about 2/3 to the right. Again, this is usually the constant reading on a stock motor when warmed up. But again, we're dealing with stock guages, so don't be surprised if others disagree with me.

Good luck on the temperature. I won't give any advice on this one, because it is really a toss up. This guage is probably the worst of them all.

Here's a somewhat stupid thought, but oh well: I wonder what a Ford dealer would charge to make all of the guage corrections AND if they are capable of doing so? They may not touch the cluster due to the fact that it has been tampered with. Then again, I'm not sure just how accurate those guages are right out of the factory.

Wish I could be of more help, but this may give you a good idea of how irritating this task is going to be.

Good luck.
