I went to Circuit City to look for a new receiver. When I told them what year my car was(2000 GT), he told me they wouldn't touch it. Something to do with the Mach 460 system. He said they would have to totally run all new wire to all the speakers and I was looking at a 1500.00 job. I went and asked another friend of mine about this and he said that a new receiver is an easy install with my year. That it was the 01+ with the in-dash 6-disk cd changer that need to have the speakers rewired. Can anyone help me with this? Also, will I have to bypass the Mach 460 amp and just use the one in the receiver since I am using the stock speakers? My friend also said there is an adapter plate that I can get that hooks to the back of the new receiver. Is this correct also?? Thanks in advance.

you can bypass the amp, allthough i recomend swapping out the stock speakers at the same time, but do the deck first and see if you like the sound. what you do is remove the stock radio, and the the trim bezal (to gain access to the stock amp. unplug the wires and you can by pass everything right there, use a continuity tester to match up which wires lead from teh amp harness to each speaker and just extend the wire straight from the deck to the harness in order to do it. only thing yuoll need from the harness behind the radio is the power and ground wires. by the way i work at circuit city and have worked on mach 460s and thats how i do it, so they are full of **** when they say you need new wires ran, allthough its easy to make that assumption. however i agree with the new speaker suggestion. this adapter your buddy speaks of will still run the wires through the factory amps, and wont sound good.
