The guy who did the rewire/transplant on your car might have rewired the FP relay (which should be under the seat or near the passenger strut tower, depending upon the year he cannibalized).

The computer is what creates that timed priming (via a ground pulse to the relay's coil) and he might have simply set that wire aside and run a wire from that relay coil terminal to chassis ground. Therefore whenever the key is turned on, the pump primes (the computer no longer supplies the ground and therefore cant cut it off).

It is not good to have the FP prime needlessly. I always recommend that people fix things correctly. That said, I dont see a real issue as long as you dont leave the key in the on-position for very long, without starting the car. Use the accessory position to listen to the radio, etc.

You could put a switch on that wire so you can leave the key on and not have the FP prime, BUT that is one more thing to fail. And if it does, the car can stall in traffic, allowing an accident, etc (I am VERY cautious about recommending stuff which can allow the car to stall). Tons of people on here have switches just like that though.

If you are comfortable with it and good at soldering, adding a switch (which doubles as a kill switch) can work. Just be sure the connections and switch used are sound.

You can also run that wire passively through an SPDT relay. This configuration means that if the switch fails or the relay does not energize, the FP should still work. But that is more wiring.

Did I make that confusing enough?

Bottom line - you can leave it as it is - just try not to keep the key on if you are not about to start the car.

Good luck.
