Question for Lightbar owners

I installed the CDC Lightbar in my 02' vert last weekend. I'm pretty tall (6'3") and like to ride with the seat all the way back and reclined a little. I tried the modifications to the seat belt loops that CDC has in their instructions, but it wasn't going to work for me - the loops would still contact the lightbar. So for now I don't have the loops. Looks nice, but it sucks to reach for the seat belt way back there. And when you take the seat belt off and let it go it really bangs around on the interior. I think it'll mark up the interior panels pretty badly if left this way.

What did you do about the seat belt loops? Are the Ford part numbers that CDC lists as optional from the 94-98 models or are they different, maybe Saleen or Roush parts?

Remove the headrests then unscrew the seat belt holders and turn them upside down and re-install them, and re-install the headrests. There is less, or no conflict with the side panels this way. You might have to place some tape on the belt loop slots though, to keep belts from occassionaly slipping out.

I still have mine off, and have gotten used to reaching that far back to get the belt... My passengers, however, have not, and its funny to watch them struggle for the belt. As far as the seat belt loops, i plan on getting some of the newer ones that angle down and are smaller, but god help me i cant remember what model year they are for.

I did it myself, not very hard. took about 3 hours, but I was taking my time. I've got pics of the install, I'll try to upload them soon and show the install in another thread. Yes you cut holes in the rear panels, and its pretty easy to wire in the brake light.

Go to my thread ref: CDC lightbar install. Good pic by pic illustrations. You'll know if you can DIY. It's a fun project. 1st one took 6 hours..second one took 4 hrs. Take your time.

the material on the light bar gets torn up easily. mine got ripped by one of my passengers flinging my seat back and it sliced the light bar. I took a grinder and took off some of the material in the rear and side of the seat belt loop with no clearance issues after that. Its just plastic so it grinds off with little effort.

now about your your height....have you tried the Kenny Brown seat rail extenders? best mod ever to my car! i'm 6'2 and they gave me about 4 more inches of leg room.

I took my seat belt loops off and have no plans to replace them with anything else. Like others have said, you get used to having to reach for it.

I installed my lightbar myself in 3 hours. Its actually really easy. I did need a hand lowering the bar into place but other than that it was a piece of cake.

i just took mine off... i dont mind reaching back to grab them and you just have to let them go back slowly when getting out... but hasnt made any marks on my interior

I installed Rousch seat belt loops. They are real snug to the head rest and keep the seat belt away from my bar. The loops were $10.00 a piece. The only problem I had was the passenger side loop was in the box for the driver side and the driver side on was in the passenger side box. I can take a picture tonight if you want see them. The part numbers are in my signature.

I had a small tear in my vinyl after the install. I installed my bar without drilling the big holes in the rear panel that are for easy acess to the allen head screws that hold the bar in place. The rear panel slipped up on the bar while a friend of mine was pulling on it so I could get access to the screws. I carried the car to one of those vinyl repair shops and they were able to repair it while i waited, during my lunch hour.

It took me about 4 hours. I got the bar without the additional brake light. I probably could of done it in 3, but I didn't drill the access holes for screws that hold the bar in. Looks better with out the plugs in my rear panel that CDC sends with there kit. Be sure to have a friend help you if you decide to install it without drilling the access holes for the screws. If you do search you can find some posts about this if you interested.

I have some like this on my car ... the OEM order part is in the instructions for installing the light bar. The driver's side doesn't rub the bar, but the passenger side does if you don't pull the seat up, put the back part of the seat back some, and then slide the seat back. Before I put these on (loop holder-less) the seat belt would get stuck between the headrest and the seat while in use ... which I thought could be a safety issue ... if I were to get into an accident and needed the seatbelt to lock, it wouldn't have tightened against me because it would have been stuck between the headrest and the seat.

Nice. Thats cheap. I didnt cut the holes in the trim either.
