I am new to the 5.0's, but a old time Mustang fan. I have had a 1965 4 speed car for 20 years, and just got a 1989 5.0 5 speed car that I bought a few months ago. It is all stock, and runs good. The clutch has always felt like it does not have enough travel to fully disengage, making it hard to shift, especially into reverse and 1st gear. I have put in a new clutch cable, clutch, pressure plate and through out bearing. It needed all of these, and I found a couple of other little things along the way such as a new seal on the input shaft of the transmission and valve cover gaskets. I looked at the fork, and it did not show any significant wear nor did it appear bent. Two other thoughts, are there two throwout bearing thicknesses available, resulting in less pressure plate travel? The quadrant? I released the spring pressure off of the paw and did not feel wear, but this is first time experiance dealing with these. It is the original plastic quadrant.
