I also have a pet peeve about non-functional stuff - vents that cool the windows, vents that don't feed anywhere and so forth - but after a while, you start to consider that there is plenty on a car design that is non-functional - flared wheelarches don't really do anything right? So if you look at them as simply enhancing the appearance and making the car more interesting visually, they become more acceptable.
I agree about the hood scoop though as it impedes your vision but I am considering non-functional side ducts.
