So...I just got this G-tech dealy. It is one of the older models, not sure which one. Anyways.. I decided to go out to a very much deserted road today and test it's accuracy. My 1/4 mile time was 14.95 at 100.4. Does this sound legit to you guys. I had a pretty crummy 2-3 shift also.

those things arent entirely accurate but that mph is good for a lot better than a high 14

But I have heard that they will give you a close estimate, within a few tenths

Sounds right since you were on a regular road, not a prepped track so i'm sure you were spinning a good bit off the line which = slower 1/4 time, but high mph.

and the mph is always high on one of these as it will give the instantaeous mph at the 1/4 mile mark, not an average over the last 60' like at the track.

Yeah I'd say with those mods, you would be looking at under 100mph for the 1/4 so id definitely read fast there. The 1/4 time however looks reasonable.

ok: here it is man

Bone stock dyno: 192 RWHP 258 RWTQ

I add a CAI, Cobra Intake, 70mm TB, better plugs, bassani o/r X, MAC shorties, 3.55 gears.

I run the G-tech meter, register a 14.01, not too bad, I look at HP, its telling me I have 158 rwhp, something is way off there, seeing as how I dynod 192 bone stock. and I doubt if something was FUBARd enough to make me drop to 158 hp that I would still be running 14sec 1/4 mile.

Lesson being, dont put a lot of faith into those things.

Those things are only as good as the weight you set into them... They can be pretty accurate... I did some HP runs on my last truck and it was telling me 215-222 and I dyno'd 220 in the same trim...

I played with the high dollar model belonging to a friend one Sat for a couple of hours.

The first time out it showed something like 178hp

I read a lot of more stuff in that thick manual and saw I where I screwed up with a few things the first time

Second blast showed something like 224hp or whatever but ... it was still real low

I read for about 15 more minutes and found several things I needed to change to give more accurate results but ran out of time.

Later that night, I looked at the two runs and even though the hp/tq numbers were low, the curves were an exact match for my dyno curves. They were too low of course, but I did think if I had more time to play with it, I could get results much closer and my gut feeling was they might get real close.

anyway ...................

The GTech is a testing device and IMHO, should be thought of no differently than the dyno.

You first set a baseline
and
then compare to see gains or losses

to changes made seeking the hp/tq addiction fix

100% Accuracy is not really all that important
