i have recently gotton an offer to buy a SCT xcal 2 for $300, i'm thinking about getting it. but not too sure, i know that it won't help all that much considering all i have done to the car right now, is K&N air filter, and flowmaster, i have a x-pipe on the way. should i get the tuner or save my money??

If you want to be able to mess around with tuning it yourself, or if you ever want to take it to a dyno tuner and have them custom tune with the Xcal then you might as well pick it up. Alot of people like the Xcal's... I bought a used Diablosport Predator for $175 and didnt notice squat with it, but then again the tune was generic.

If you dont like it you can always re-sell it.

i know the guy and he is in my town soo even if he fogote to unlock it, i can just take it to him and have him do it. and yeah its used. do yall think it will help?? i want to more for the said fuel economy gain, not the power gain. i know it will hel;p in the long run though. after i get some real power parts for my car

Sure it will..every little bit helps. You might consider picking up a K&N filter and a set of underdrive pulleys to help you out with fuel economy as well. The combination of the three might net you another couple miles to the galon?

Yup...freeing up a little exhaust flow helps too. Just remember, with new found power, comes a new found urge to test it out at every stop light. Although you mileage will technically improve under normal driving, you need to remember to discipline yourself in order to actually improve it. ;)

If you spend the majority of you driving around town and in stop and go traffic, a gear swap to a higher (numerically) set of rear gears might actually improve your mileage as well. It’ll hurt you a little on the highway, but the added torque multiplication down low and ability to frequent overdrive more often will often improve your situation around town.

ok, yeah i was thinking bout getting 4.10's but i don't know what route i want to take my car. either s/c or na, if s/c i will got with 3.73's but na isnt it better to go with 4.10's??
should i get this tuner?? i have till friday to make my decision and i really don't know.
and i want to try to make it into the low 13's how should i do that, 97 gt vert. and what would be a good LOW PROFILE role cage for when i do break into the 13's actually 13.89 when i need a cage. and is that a hard goal to hit there?

If you've got a power adder, or serious mods in your future, then by all means get the tuner. It's the tool of choice for anyone who plans to modify their OBD II system. You'll need it later on down the road to optimize your combination for best performance, speedometer correction for gear changes, data logging for tuning purposes, etc, etc. In the mean time, you can use it to improve your fuel economy, fine tune your performance and it's also great for reading and clearing CEL's. :nice:

ok,
i have one final question. i have heard alot of talk about a J-Mod for my auto. WTF is it and what does it actually do i have been told to do this but have no idea what it is and what it does

where could i get it done and how much. is it really worth it?? or should i try my original plan, get money, go to junk yard, find wreck 5 speed, get all the parts i need, instal 5 speed, enjoy my new manuel (since i miss manuel soo much.)

Keep in mind that for a 97 you cant use the programmer to change the gear ratio. Its non electronic before the 99 model year.

Also, what crazy track makes you install a cage at 13.89? I have a freind with a 03/04 Cobra vert running 12.6's trapping at 116 and he doesnt have one.
