Just tried it with and without push rods and rockers. The gauge just bounced up and down.really didn't go anywhere. Tried it on two cylinders

So do I have to place lower intake back on to get a proper reading?

Did it bounce around at a certain pressure? That should be all does.

Never mind I got it to read. Didn't have the distributor in to circulate the oil. Compression results are
1:75
2:100
3:75
4:50
5:145
6:145
7:150
8:148
Forgot to put coolant in car on first start because was so excited to get running. Ran for six minutes in idle. Think blown head gasket or worse? Car doesn't start now.

This is all dry test. Poured oil in cylinder one after test to see any difference. Psi went to 76. Not much of difference

What does Cyl 4 do with oil?

Not much change? That entire bank looks off...did you torque the head down properly?

It is unlikely a blown head gasket would make all four cylinders down. Are you sure you put the head gasket on at all? Also you shouldn't reuse a head gasket if you pull the head again. Some do but I don't.

Managed to get it to run for about twenty seconds and it shut off. RPMs still rose up slowly and went down slowly as a revved up engine. everything on the intake is capped off so should I go on ahead and pull the head? Since its still acting like I have a vacuum leak?

Took the heads off drivers side cylinders in excellent condition. Passenger side has metal shavings everywhere. Time to sell off my good parts and save for an ls1 swap. I can complete the swap with $2k. Going with a5.3 for now

Just out of curiosity, show us some pics of the damage. That sucks, sounds like your motor got too hot.
