so i was wondering, i am wanting to get the one3performance turbo kit. but the question i have is, if i should do it or not. my motor has around 120k on it and is running healthy and strong, with no problems. could i possibly install this kit and have no potential problems with a correct tune? or is the mileage gonna be a factor and not be a good idea to do. all inputs are greatly appreciated. i do plan on doing a rebuild in the near future, so this kit would be used then also.

I'd say get it, stay with a safe moderate tune, keep up the basic maintenance, and you should be fine. Don't abuse the car and it should last...

I have seen the mod motors with 200k+ miles still going strong. I look at it like this. Get a good, safe tune....then beat the hell out of it. If it goes, it was ment to go....and you get to upgrade to a forged engine.

thanks a lot guys, the main thing that was scaring me away from this idea was the mileage of my motor.

If you pull the engine apart right now you'd probably find most, if not all wear items are within spec if the engine has seen decent maintenance. Miles, in and of themselves, are not the same as wear.

Having said that, I think you'd be okay but you always have to remember that the stock shortblock is really safe only to about 400rwHP. Some live at 450, or more, for a while but it's definitely a knife-edge thing. You can also hurt the motor at 400 if your tune isn't spot on. Limit your output to 400 or 425, get a conservative tune and be careful and attentive with it. F/I on a stock motor is really fun but my attitude is that the penalty of doing so on a stock bottom end is the need for extra vigilance, attentiveness to sounds (esp detonation), knowing to back off the throttle when ambient temps are high etc.

another question that came to mind is, im pretty sure that my 4:10s arent gonna fair well with the turbo set up, so should i change those out too. i know that i have to get a tubular k member, supporting fuel mods and what not, but then im here rethinking everything and wondering if i should get a used supercharger set up, and not change out my gears and then i dont have to get a k member. but the one thing that makes me wanna get the on3 kit is that i can get a used kit for a fairly decent price

Even with a supercharger 4.10's are to much. With a PD blower I would go with 3.55 and with a centri a 3.73. Are you content with 400hp???? If so..get the blower. If you want lots of room to upgrade then go for the turbo.

I put nitrous on my GT around 140k. I did a compression test before I made that decision and was happy enough with the results. I started out with a 75 shot and now put a 125 shot through it.

Turbo setup is a lot easier on parts since boost builds up, whereas nitrous is an instant hit and creates a very dramatic increase in cylinder pressure and temps as soon as it ignites.

I agree

I like the 4:10's on a modular turbo set-up
