racing stripes

how wide do people usually do them and the gap size? i was thinkin 9 1/2 in stripe and 2 1/2 gap

To make them look right they need to be tapered, with 2 inch space between them at all times. If nobodoy can find a link ill scan the deminsions out of a mustangs plus catelog.

why does the strieps get bigger?

They taper so the stripe "appears" to be a constant width when viewed head-on. If they were cobstant width, the portion of the strip closest to the viewer would appear fatter than the portions further away.
