Hey guys, just wanted to let you know of a little trick I found for those of us wanting to do racing stripes and always wondered what they would look like. Well I saw a commercial for the duplicolor car art stuff and decided I wanted to use it to paint some stripes on my car. We tapped off the stripes and painted the red on it. Turned out pretty good and gave me an idea of the width and placement I want. I liked it so much that my buddy at the shop I frequent said that he would paint the stripes for free and I would just have to buy paint and help him tape it. The real stripes will be a deeper red that matches my interior with a little sparkle pearl in it. This will be a show quality paint job for 80.00.....man did I luck out.

Duplicolor is a manufacturer of pain products, also car paints, and assorted spray paint. They came out with this new car art product that is fully washable, and you can apply graphics and such and they stay till you wash the car with soap and water. Its really cool stuff and looks decent. i bought it to get an idea of what my car would look like with stripes on it.

Pics

Alright guys, I was out in the garage installing some new billit pedal covers and decided to take some pics of the "fake" stripes on the car. Yes I know one stripe is bigger than the other and they are not perfect, but they gave me a good idea of what I really want on the car Saturday....any questions feel free to ask.

It is really easy to wash off, I applied multiple coats and it can still be wiped off some with the fingertip. It was a great tool instead of using photoshop or some other program to give you a picture, this is a real life alternative...Just wanted to share...Good luck

That's pretty cool. You can also use contact paper for that super-ghetto look.

Just my opinion, but I hate it when people put really skinny stripes on a car. If it was mine I'd want them way wider than you have them.

you are exactly right about the width, after doing the test i decided that the ones are going to be wider and closer together...i am super excited to get the real painting underway

You can get the Shelby dimensions of the net somewhere so you can have the perfect fit stripes. Those are WAY too skinny IMHO. Stripes should be around 10" wide. Cool idea though.

Yes, please get the Shelby dimensions, I think they're still on Branda's website. I have yet to see any other stripes look 'right'.

Thank you 1320 for the link to the dimensions. I was considering doing this fun mod to put more balls into my FB.

thank you, already printed it out and took the dimensions to the body shop...thanks guys, and the stripes wiped right off (car is back to just plain white now) without any problems for those who were curious.

Now THAT is a product I could use! I can already see next year's April Fool's joke! I'm gonna put some flames on the wife's Suburban without here knowing it and tell her it was an early Mother's Day present! What colors does that stuff come in?
