Rack & Pinion Comparison Matrix

I can tell you that on the TCP you reuse the current column, but you do have to cut it down a little bit. I am running mine with Flowtech Long Tubes without interference. It is expensive, and if you add the KRC pump, which I did, you have really dented your wallet. I don't know of the result if you use a stock pump so I can't comment on that. But since you get what you pay for I will say that it has been FLAWLESS. I've had it in for just over a year now and no problems (knock on wood). It is engine and year specific which means it is a great fitting piece and was trully a "bolt on" application. Ease of install gets high marks. Taking out the old steering is twice as hard as installing this new kit. My .02 on the TCP Power Rack.

pretty cool, it's basically a Steeroids with a beefier mount to the frame and the RRS-style guide, which should help eliminate flex.

I had pre-ordered that one, but the manufacturers, SET, not Håkan on this forum who invented it, almost trippled the quoted price. That made it even expenciver than the TCP and RRS units. That's why I'm installing my new TCP power unit later today.

I wonder about repair parts. When it comes time to rebuild......where do you get a rebuild kit from? What is the rack unit based on? If the company goes out of business like TCP almost did; where do you go for replacement parts? Maybe you should add this info to the matrix?

Just filling in a few of the holes in the TCP information.

Cost: Manual $1299 (complete), Power $2599 (complete w/pump v-belt or serpentine, billet mounting bracket w/spacers, belt not included) The $2000 is just the rack and installation components. Pump used to be 'optional' but we no longer provide tech support or hose components for OEM pump based systems.

Lock to Lock: 'Quick Ratio' 3 turns, 6-3/8" travel - same for manual or power

Complete Kit: rack, brackets, hardware, steering shaft, shaft bearing w/ retainer, universal joints

Options: aftermarket tilt column w/wiring components, tie-rods with billet sleeves, stainless braided hoses

Bump Steer: corrected

Flex: NONE - wide spread centerlink studs, 4 mounting brackets at frame rails and lower control arm mounts, gusseted brackets at frame rails

Column Change: Stock or aftermarket supported (Flaming River, Ididit) specific u-joints for each column type. Cannot be used with factory non-collapsible tilt or swing-away columns. Recommend later collapsible type or aftermarket.

Other: available for '64-'70 Mustang, '67-'70 Cougar, '60-'65 Falcon/Ranchero/Comet

Other: power system is tunable for road feel, assist, feedback (pump output flow valve, control servo torsion bar. Steering bias also adjustable to perfectly center steering regardless of caster stagger.
