Ok geting alot of feed back in the radio. I have a kenwood custom audio along with the CD changer in the trunk. The Amps Are MTX I have 2 of them with a Pre AMP / Equlizer. The speakers are MB Quartz . I get alot of noise from the engine you can hear the whine with the RPM as it goes up and down.
Also Some times I will get a Sound Spike that will not alow the music to come through. The main power comes off the battery and is a very think amp gage that goes down to 2 smaler gage amp feeds. I am thinking its the ground since I have them all grounded to one spot in the back .

Some times it will play for days with out the Spikes though the whine is always there yea just can't hear it unless your between songs on the CD player

I think the engine noise is caused by a poor ground. Try separating your grounds. Make sure you ground into the frame, not just a floor pan or dash panel. Make sure to sand any paint off of the area you are attaching the ground.

Good luck,
Tim

Actually, you don't want to separate your grounds if you can avoid it because that creates what is know as a "ground loop". When I used to build custom sound systems we always made a common grounding lug for all audio equipment. Read here for some information if you like....it is the first link that popped up in a google search for "ground loop".

If you're still running from an oem alternator with separate voltage regulator, there is a suppressor attached to the voltage regulator that may need changing. A bad ground is always a possibility, as others have mentioned. You may also consider upgrading your plug wires to something that provides more shielding and even consider getting a capacitor. The cap will actually operate the audio equipment and isolate it from the "noise" associated with the charging system... sort of like running a computer from a UPS, where you run off the battery, not the wall outlet directly.

The capacitor is audio equipment... any car audio dealer...at least 1 farad should do. The supressor can probably be found at most parts stores, althouh I'd be looking at the plug wires first...after the grounds, that is.
