Radio Ground.

When I bought this 89 gt a month or so ago it had no radio. So I ran speaker wire yatta yatta got it set up.

I wire the new head unit and everything and turn the ignition and the radio comes on but no sound comes out. Took me a couple minutes but I unhooked the ground wire (Which was at the time direct to the metal dash frame, which i assumed was ground) and I turned it on and sound played but it cut out at about 3/4 volume or so. I figure this is due to a lack of ground. So I wrap a ground wire around the exposed shifter handle. (Which I know is ground from when I was using my multi meter). And again with the radio running no sound.

Searched extensively around Google and stuff and I haven't really found anything. Am I missing something, I was thinking about just running it straight to the negative battery terminal but checking before I start all this.

Did you hard wire it in or did you buy the adapter harness?

Its all hard wired, previous owner had a sweet hack job going.

Thanks I found that on Google while I was searching, appreciate the help though. There is no solid black wire coming to the radio area, but there is a black with white stripe I tried that didn't work.

I ended up just running a wire from the negative battery terminal around the outside of my car just to make sure I wasn't crazy.

With it hooked up to the radios ground no sound plays. Unhooked sound does play until i touch the ground wires together. I guess I'm going to have to call the radio company.

Any other ideas would be great

Update: I called Dual. The Company of the Radio itself.

Really awful customer support. I told him the problem and there was silence for a few seconds.
"Uh I dunno just send it back".

The good news is amazon is amazing with returns and is already shipping me a new one while I return ship them the old one. All on there dime.
