I need some advice.. in about 6 months I will be (finally) ready to buy a used '96-'98 Cobra convertible. I want one in Rio Red, which they only made in '97. Seems just about impossible to find a good one in that color, so the thought crossed my mind to maybe get one of another color and have it professionally re-painted. I don't care what that would do to the value of the car, as long as it was a good quality job. I would want it to look like it came from the factory in the new color; all the nooks and crannys done too, like inside the doors and inside the trunk, etc. Has anyone had any experience re-painting a newer Mustang? Is it more trouble and expense than it is worth? If so I could just bite the bullet and wait until that perfect bright red '97 shows up someday. What do you think?

Yep, I wanted a Black 5 spd GT...and would settle for nothing else (well, True Blue is a close 2nd, so soon after the purchase of the Black one, we we picked the 01 for my wife!). Don't settle.

i just repainted my 99 vert. I just repainted it the factory color which was black. I have done cars before though where I did change the color and it is a PITA. You have to get all the little spots if you want it to look right. What ever you do don't go to black it is extremely hard to paint.

to be honest guys, even from the factory the paint isn't the best paint out there...

if you have the money to repaint your car, do it. but do a different color than factory.

Thanks for your advice.. waiting for the right one is what I really "know" I should do. But I just get very impatient while driving a V-6... automatic, no less! Only time the rubber on my car gets burned is if I peg the brakes! Oh well... if I have to wait a while, just more time to save up a huge down payment.
