Real, real deep, weak sounding exaust?

A buddy I know has a foxbody that sounds incredibly deep. exause is deep, I mean deeper than any big block. It sounds sickening but not it a good way, and when he revvs it, it just sound like crap. It's not missing or anything, but it sure doesn't run like a car with this combo. Carbed 306, Victor Jr. intake, Speed Demon 650, AFR165's, Luminati Flat hydro 230/230 durration .530 lift, shortie headers, mac H-pipe, Mac Flowpath exaust. When he revvs it, it just gets louder and a little change in pitch. It sounds horrible real weak, sounds like it's underwater. He revved it the other night and I couldn't stand the sound. I was trying to avoid him it was so bad "shut the pos off". Any ideas on what would cause this.
 
Well, it does have an exaust leak but it still sounded like this before it leaked. Not a catted H-pipe but it sounds like one. To me, it sounds like clogged exaust. I am thinking maby it was the mufflers or something clogging something. Does the MAC muffler use baffles?
 
I have the Mac Flowpath & their O/R H pipe as well, it's deep, but not as deep as you describe.

I'm almost certain the Mac mufflers are chambered, like Flowmasters. Maybe some of the baffles have blown out? Lately I'm wondering if exhaust pops from the car running rich might have screwed up some of mine, b/c it seems like it's louder and doesn't sound as good as it used to... :shrug:
 
I run MAC exh...for over 5 years now...still have yet to have any rust "problems"

did anyone stop to think that maybe he's not running enough timing? also, if he's running a stock bottom end with a high rise single plane intake and a 230* @0.050" cam, that's NOT an optimal combination...to run a cam with those numbers you need closer to 10:1cr...also, that intake is designed for high rpm flow, not low rpm veloctiy.

but getting back to the timing...if it's retarded too far, it will sound "labored" like it wants to die, it will also sound deep because the fuel/air mix is still burning when it exits the cylinder head into the exh system, it will not rev up very quickly and will sound and feel very weak...

...just a possibility
