Rear Brakes??

Hey everyone.....I know there are plenty of threads on rear brakes and installing them, but I forgot something and I could not quickly find the answer.

I was going to upgrade my rear brakes to the Cobra Brake Kit (I have already done the front some time ago), but having to remove the axles kind of scared me away from doing so.

My question is, if I just replace the rotors with stock size Brembo blanks and HPS pads, do I still need to remove the axles? Or is that just something that needs to be done if going bigger and replacing the calipers?

dude you don;t need a rear cobra brake kit.

take your caliper bracket and make it a little deeper, this will allow you to put on the Cobra disc rotors on the back, without the need for the entire kit.

see the caliper bracket that sits on top of the brake rotor? alll you have to do is take a grinder and make it deeper, so that a cobra rotor would be able sit in there.

thanks for the info.

For the most part it was for cosmetics to match the front, but at the same time a little performance.
But at this point, my pads are gone and it is starting to grind.

If I can just grind it down and fit the cobra bigger rotors with the stock calipers then that is an idea to consider.
I may just replace the stock ones with same size brembos.

My main goal is to determine if I can do just the rotors without pulling the axles?

I'm totally confused by this post.

Your picture shows the front brake of an 99-04 GT.

You need to pull the axles to install the Cobra axle brackets to relocate the caliper 1" outwards to clear the larger Cobra rotor. It's not just thicker, it's also larger in diamter.

Pulling the axles is not that bad at all. It can be done in an hour or two. Hardest part of the job is refilling the differential.

Replacing he rotors and pads does not involve pulling the axles.

BTW, Brembo blanks and new pads is a good setup. It's what i did with my 13" front upgrade because I was too lazy to pull the axles....and then my axle seal went and I had to do it anyway 2 weeks later

Thats is what I thought, but wanted to make sure.

I will just switch the rotors and pads.

I think I will do the brake lines as well.
