I had my boyfriend change my brake pads and resurface my rotors and changed the wheel bearings. Then after that we had a squealy bearing noise from the back end drivers side, so after that I decided to rebuild my whole rear end, he took of the rear end and brought it to this shop called Pro Gear here in San Diego, we bought a Timken master bearing kit and new wheel bearings. We had the labor done for $240. So after that, we got the rear end back in and it made the same noise.

So we took it back to the shop that we got the rotors resurfaced at and they say its bad wheel bearings. I argued with them about how I just replaced all the axel bearings, so it couldn't be any bearings in the rear end. They ended up saying that Pro Gear must of done the work wrong and wanted to work on my car for $$. So I just took it back to Pro Gear and they are looking at it now. WTF?!?!!!??

So immediately after he replaced the pads/rotors, the noise started? If not immediately, how soon afterwards.

If the noise came right after the brake/rotor/bearing install, my guess is your rear end is fine.

One of the new bearings could be bad. Did you test all of the bearings to make sure they spun very easily? Did you put a crap load of wheel bearing grease on the bearings before you installed them?

The brakes/rotors could be rubbing somewhere. The best thing to do is jack the read end up in the air, remove the rear wheels and get the car up to the minimum speed for the noise to occur. Then examine the brake/rotor assembly to make sure they are not rubbing anywhere.

Whoops, I just noticed that you took the car back to pro gear. Hope things go well.

Well it looks like the stupid brake shop did not turn the roters right, Progear is going to resurface them and the brake shop is going to pay are bill. I cant belive the brake shop ! Its allmost like it was a scam for them to work on it.

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the left rear caliper slides were sticking. I noticed the problem right after changing the rear pads (just like you). I guess putting new, thicker brake pads in made the problem noticable.

I was just thinking.... Take a look at the back wheels and see if one is alot more dirty than the other. If so then you have the same problem i had. Since the caliper slides were sticking it made the left rear pad wear down to nothing in less than a 1 1/2 hour drive.

It turned out to be the back brake roters were not resurfaced right. The roters had small lines and other marks when I had them done by these rejects, then when progear resurfaced them they were all smooth and had no noises. The brake shop called the cops on my boyfriend because he wanted the money back for the bad resurface job and would not leave until he got it back, the cops came and made the idiot pay him. I am thinking of stink bombing there shop, what do you guys think ?

I'm gonna go with a big no on the stink bomb, they obviously have no problem in calling the cops and besides, they are probably already mad that they had to pay you back- and you got the money so it's pretty much settled even though you got the run around

hold on with the stink bomb idea- are you 18 yet? If not, then have fun stinkin it up
