I want to get some 4.10 gears for my car. I opted for them since I dont really do any highway driving, so they shouldnt hurt my mileage much, and they should give me a performance boost. BUT, what parts do I need to get in order to do a complete change to 4.10 gears other than the basic Ring and Pinion gears...?

get that and some new gear oil and friction modifier. you might want to go ahead and rebuild the tracloc also and replace your axle bearings since the axles will come out anyways

Any idea how much gears would shave off of a 1/4 time? Say for example that I run 15.0 seconds stock with my 3.08s... any estimates?

going from 2.73's to 4.10's in a 5speed is supposed to shave off about .4sec +/-. It makes a huge SOTP difference. Oh, and I used some red RTV silicone to seal the rear cover. and go to walmart, they have a gear oil pump that screws to the top of the bottle and pumps the gear lube through a hose into the pumpkin. makes less of a mess. don't forget to put the friction mod fluid in!

Yeah, maybe if you're roasting off the tires with the 4.10s.......in reality if you can get it to hook, you'll see huge gains.

If you plan on doing the swap yourself, you'll need a dial indicator and magnetic base to set the backlash. Also, inspect the carrier bearings and races as well as the wheel bearings, and I'd replace the axle seals too while you have the axles out (even if they aren't leaking). Other than that, you'll need some new shims as well to get the backlash set properly, which are available at your local Ford dealership or tranny/rear-end shop. There is a chart in the Chilton's Mustang repair manual that tells you which shim to use to correct for X amount of backlash, or i'm sure the dealership could has that chart available also.

Hope this helps!
