if i want to fix my 1 wheel burnout in my 96gt... do i just need the $50 traction-lok rebuilt kit with the shims etc.. or do I need to buy that + a new rear diff?

I thought all GT's had the trash-lok in them?

Mines dead too, I went to pull into traffic earlier and instead of moving, I kind of sat there spinning the right rear for a few seconds...:nonono:

just because he has a one wheel peel does not mean he did not have limited slip.. the limited slip will wear out over time. If you do doughnuts it will wearout even quicker.. on the door trim tag you will see under AX either a number 8 or a letter.. if you have 8 there then you had a open rear end. I highly doubt you had a open rear on a gt.

As long as you had limited slip from the factory then all you need is the clutch pack rebuild kit. there is two kits out there. the 50 dollar one you have to shim yourself, then there is a 100 dollar one that comes pre shimed.

don't forget friction mod. Or does it come in the kit?

No the friction mod does not come in the kit. You will need two bottles of XL-3 friction modifier. They used to have us use the other stuff in the black bottle (xl-7) but ford issued a TSB to just use the xl-3

the reason you need two bottles is you have to soak the clutches in xl-3 for 15 minutes or longer and the other bottle is to dump in the rear end.
