how to rebuild stock heads

Well Im almost positive that I have a blown head gasket, but i dont have enough money yet for the thumper head and cam package that i want to get. I was wondering where I could find information on a stock rebuild for the E7TE heads. At the very least I will replace the valve springs while the heads are off, but I would really like to replace the rest of the valve assembly also. Can this be accomplished for less than 200$ on a do it your self basis. Im saving for a new top end, but everytime Im close somthing happens that my savings gets used up. Also what gaskets would you reccomend that will take 10-12lbs of boost. thanks for the help.

Have a shop go thru the heads... valve job, surface, new seals and SPRINGS.. should cost around 225-260.00 IF you buy the springs.. that might save you a few more bucks! ( mail me I have drop in springs.. for hyd roller applications... and if you up date later they can be transfered to the new heads.. ) just a thought...

That sounds a little cheap for what I see up here but not that far off $100-125 VJ, $75-100 milling, $25 Viton Seals, springs and seals I would go with what Mike recommeds since youll be using his product.

What happend to the AFR deal with your buddy?

LOL... that is why asking for prices is pretty strange... the cost from city to city or state to state, can be huge!! LOL and then there is quality of work.. blah blah... I guess that 250.00 still would be on the skinny side...

Well my buddy decided he was going to rebuild his Cobra kit car and now wants to have his AFR 165's sent out to be ported and polished so they flow like 185's with out having to buy new heads. He's going from a 306 to a 331 bottom end but want to reuse the everything else from the motor. I gave him 300 up front for the heads, and rockers. I asked him if I could pick them up because I wanted you to go over them since they came out of a car that burned down. Then the day he was supossed to bring them into work he brought my money back instead. I really think someone offered him more money for the parts even though we had a deal.

That sucks.... a deal is a deal, once you agree everyone else should be out of the picture!!!

$200 is CHEAP for a head job. You need to have new guides put in a valve job and new springs. You should be able to get the heads done for $300 or so, of course depending on the local shops. Plus if you take some time and a hand grinder and clean up the ports a bit you will have some benifits.

Going with a used set of heads is not an all bad idea, but before anything like that went in my motor I would still want guides and a valve job just to be safe. It would suck to get a set of heads off someone that had a bad guide/ seals or valve issues.

I'll sell you my rebuilt e7's. They came with my rebuilt engine and ran just fine. I only used them for 1000 miles b4 going to TW heads. They are ported for the intake to give it a little better flow. ...$50 plus shipping they are yours.

I sent you a P.M.

Yeah it really varies from area to area. What is the cost on a good competition valve job on a Serdi run down there?

For me here in NJ costs are: valve job is $250 (with bowl cleanup), $100 to mill, $150 to port match intake to heads.
NO parts included in those prices.
