I have a t5 tranny in my stang that i believe has third gear blown. i was wondering if rebuilding it myself would be a difficult task. i have never done any work like this and i am 17 years old so i have plenty of time to work on it. anu suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!
Buy the T5 rebuild video from www.hanlonmotorsports.com that will tell you everything you need to know about the rebuild. If you pretty mechanically inclined then its pretty easy, you'll need a couple somewhat special tools like snap ring pliers, c clip pliers, and a press to press the bearings on and off.
A T5 rebuild kit with syncros, bearings and other small parts costs about $160. It does not include any gears or shafts.

I did a Tremec 3550 rebuild, and it wasn't that difficult. The video was an immense help, and I would recommend viewing it. At $20, it will give you an opportunity to look and decide for yourself if you think
I was just like you. Never did one. Download a manual off the internet and just line up every thing in order. step buy step. Its really not that hard at all. Make sure you keep the order. Also try astroperformance.com for parts. Good luck man
Where did you find a good rebuild kit for $160? The only one I have found that was close cost $175 because it was listed wrong, so I only had to pay $175 rather than the $220 it was supposed to cost, and Hanlon's kit costs a little over 200 including shipping. If I could get kits pretty consistently for $160 I would end up making about $40 more dollars per rebuild.
