removal questions

1. How does one remove the glass and scissor harware from the doors?

2. How do you remove the rain gutter chrome trim?

ok I got the door glass, I have tried to search, so does anyone know how to get the crome trim off the rain rails without damaging them?

the drip rail is better left on unless you are really good at welding and cleaning up the lip. As far as the window scissors. I have no idea what that is.

Both of the parts you mentioned can be a real challenge to remove without damage. Here's some tips on how to get them out: the glass (at least on a '67-'68) comes out fairly easily, it just requires removing a ton of parts. First, roll the window down all the way and remove the inner and outer seals that scrape the window clean. They're held on with clips and a flat screwdriver makes quick work of them. Next, remove the door panel by removing the phillips screw that holds the handle, and another that holds the window crank, then using a screwdriver, putty knife or a special panel tool, pop the clips that hold the panel on, there's lots of them and you need to be careful not to pull them through the panel. The wing window assembly is next and there are about 3 (if I remember right) adjustment nuts that hold them on. There easy to find, but can be a pain to get off. They have nuts over allen-head screws to adjust the "tilt" of the wing window, simply back the nuts off and remove the allen screws, since they won't come out of the door with the screws in place. The wing window should now lift out with a little wiggling. Then, loosen the anti-rattle bracket through the hole you just uncovered, this will allow the rear window roller to clear the window opening one it goes all the way up. Next, remove the rubber cover at the upper rear of the door it's held on by about 6 phillips screws and allows the window to slide out. Then roll the windo all the way up and locate the three screws that hold the window bracket (it's attached to the glass itself) to the scissor lift. Once these are removed, there is nothing else holding the glass in and it should come out with a bit of carefull wiggling. Then it's justa matter of afew bolts to get the scissor out, although you'll need to crank it flat first. The gutter trim can be a challenge to get off without ruining it, but it just requires patience. The trim just snaps on over the gutter, and can be removed be finding the front end and carefully sticking a tiny screwdriver in the gap at the bottom front. Then pull the trim with one hand, and wiggle the screwdriver in with the other and it'll slowly come off, a little at a time, just keep working your way around and watching to make sure you don't put any dings in it. I've heard of people using a bottle-cap opener to remove it, but when I looked at that option, I felt as though I would have a zillion bottle cap-opener shape dents in the trim, and since those parts are about $80 each for my fastback, I decided against it. Thanks for the info, last night I finally got the window and hardware out of the door PITA. The Drip Rail , Rain Gutter trim will be left alone, do not want to damage it, I was getting the car ready to be blasted and thought I should remove them. Any who thank for the help

It's really not that bad once you see how it's attached. If you'd like, I can send pics of the trim, there really isn't much to getting it off, it's just getting it started and having the nerve to be patient. It's sort of like de-fusing a bomb, you're just waiting for the "snap"! But the trim is very flexible and makes doing a quality paint job that much easier. Ever see an otherwise nice car with sanding marks on the trim or glass? That's why I stripped my fastback to the bone. Now if I could just remember how half of it goes back together...

I hear ya, when i was playin with it last night I could see that it looked like it snapped on, rolling over on the top side, and I pried on it alittle. may go at it tonight and try to remove most of the seam sealer/calk, and just take it slow. I hope i don't cut the wrong wire, now is it the red or green wire
