Just in case my Chrome alternator is not covered under warranty (still waiting for response)....Just wanted to know what is involved with removing the case from an alternator.

If my chromer is not covered...Ill get a new one from Bennet, and just change out the casing, so I just want to get some replies now so I dont have to wait when I get it back...Anyway, I have an old beat up one that I may take out to polish that one.

Thanks in advance.

Take off the pulley nut, then the three screws around the outside of the case and it should come right apart. Try to match how it matches up as I think it only goes back together one way. Also, re-assembly requires you to remove the 4 hex type headed screws from the "brushes" on the backside of the case. Just pay attention to any spacers and such that may also be on the input shaft... I know there is one there and I can't remember if it goes inside the case or on the outside. Its really not hard, just watch where everything goes and comes from when you take it apart. You need to remove the brushes because they are spring loaded and you can't put the case on as they are in the way and there is no way to hold them back. You'll see what I mean when you get it apart.

Can you take the internals from one case (the old one for me) and put them into a different case (the chrome one) assumint the cases are identical in shape/size/proportion?
