My trim around my rear window and my front windshield have been painted black with the car, but they are fading and chipping. Is there a way to remove this paint without damaging the trim? Thanks.

I took off the trim with the proper tool, used Bulldog stripper and a grey ScotchBrite (chemical gloves), and it all came right off. Rinsed thoroughly, let dry thoroughly, sprayed coverage of etching, then a few medium of SEM trim color. They still look excellent after 6 years of daily driving.

Tool...

I have done similar to PuteramI, on my 79 and 82. I removed the trim, cleaned it with soap and water, then with some 3m solvent prep, then sprayed it with a spraycan adhesion promotor, then gloss black Krylon. The adhesion promotors also seem to work on plastic trim.

I use gloss black, because it will fade and dull quickly and look like nice fresh flat black, from my experience.

Its work, but its been successful each time.

The eastwood company make a nice black trim paint, I have used it still looks good after 8 years. As stated before make sure you prep it right. I did mine on my car tough. used fine edge pinstripe tape for a good line then 3m 1" for the rest. Then masked car with plactic. Eastwood trim paint is the orginal looking matte black.
