ok, so i took out the switch panels to repaint them and decided to take out the trim around the radio and the stick shift and am painting them white. Heres what i've done so far

1. I removed the trim and cleaned it off real well with dawn (dirt and grease remover).
2. I then took some 400 grade sand paper (it was either that or 100 cuz thats all i had in my garage) and sanded the hell out of it.
3. After that i cleaned all the dust off from sanding and used a hair dryer to make sure its completely dry before paint.
4. Then i put a ton of very light coats over it untill i'm satisfied with the color.
5. Now i'm letting it dry and wondering to myself wether i should put some sort of polyurethane clear coat on top.

The spray paint i used is called "pure white" from oreilly auto parts... do y'all know of any auto-polyurethane spray can i can use or what kind of substitutes i could use instead of that?

thanks,
will

i'll deffinitely put up pictures and no i didn't use primer.

when using the oil based spray paint as long as u use a good degreaser as well as a nice sanding session to make sure its very clean the paint will stick fine without primer...at least thats what i'm assuming.

ok heres a few pictures.... i'm fairly pleased with the results although when i was doing the trim around the shifter bezzel i should have taken more time to make it look straiter, so i'll probably redo that in the futre. tell me what y'all think:

Regular spray paint will NOT adhere to plastic. You need to use some Kryon Fusion for plastics if it starts to flake. it has a Bonding Primer in it.

well the spray paint i used was made for auto-trim and accessories so maybe it had some sort of primer mixed with it.

O well then it shoudl be fine. I work at Sherwin-Williams and the Fusion stuff is the only stuff we have for plastic.

And get the billet A/C knobs. But the white face A/C panel would be overkill.

That looks great and does wonders to break up the sea of black in our interiors!

well i'm thinking about getting some billet interior things, but i don't really want it too blinged out in there.

I have a billet shift knob and some fake chrome bullet shaped door lock pins (which i think is cheezy, i'd rather them just be chrome and not bullets, but they were 2 bucks so i thought "why not"). And i'm about to order a billet grill.

not sure what else i'll get

well, i've seen other cares that have painted that area and i figured that its probably not a good idea especially for white because i can see it looking really dirty down there in a couple months. Also, i just wanted to be a bit different than the standard "i painted my interior" job.

Although, i might try to pull out the plastic surrounding the vents on the passenger side and to the bottom left of the steering wheel and paint those white as well. The only reason i'm dredding doin this is because i'd hvae to go buy more paint and the nazzi lady at the counter of oreilly auto parts won't let me buy it alone because i'm 17

That's terrible.... Tell all your friends at school they suck for making you go through hoops just to buy paint.

BTW - looks good. I haven't had the guts to try mine.

in cali its a $1,000 fine for selling spray paint to miners. and the cops would try to run little stings on our store it was redicuolus. she is probably just trying to cover her ass. personally if I knew the person was a regular I wouldn't even worry about it.

Looks good. I just got done painting a new center console for my car in black...its out of the 03's with the nicer cup holders. I used an adhesion promoter that sprayed on like a clear coat...then followed that with the Flat black(interior is all black) and it looks great. I've been thinking about trying to break up all the black but dont know what color would look nice.
