Well the 3 parts mentioned in the subject are all faded on my '93 as I'm sure many of you with a Fox have experienced. Anyways, I want to paint them black and was wondering if there is a specific brand you recommend along with a clearcoat. I plan to use a spray can so any help will be appreciated.

I just used flat black automotive paint from Wal-Mart and then cleared the parts. The clear does give them a gloss black affect, so if you don't want gloss, don't clear them.

The main thing is take them off the car, sand them down smooth and then make sure they are clean before painting them. I use some prep solvent and wipe them down or a tack cloth to make sure the dust is gone from sanding.

When painting, take your time. Beware of runs or that will set you back some time on the project waiting for it to dry and sand out again.

If you have remote side mirrors, you may have to take off the door panels to get to the connections. The last time I did mine, I spliced in a new connector so I wouldn't have to.

Its really just basic spray painting, prep work, then back and forth spraying, 3 or 4 coats, drying between each coat.

Duplicolor works fine. Hell, I did a pair of wiper arms on a Pontiac a few years back and sprayed flat black Rustoleum after having sanded/primed the arms. They actually turned out great, and were still very black 3 years later when I sold the car despite monthly washings and the Arizona sun.

Its pretty sad that spray paint lasts longer than the factory finishes. Its awesome how you can spend a few $ and just a little time with the little things that can make your car look so much better than one that has not been treated good. Its the details that matter.
