i need new Rear rotors, what does it take to remove/replace them for the same size

how about changing the pads, is that difficult?

I have done the fronts--put on the 13" and calipers etc myself, I dont have to mess with the axle on anything like that do I?

Thanks!!

basically you will need to unbolt the calipures and change them. the only pain is the e-brake cables. If I remeber correctly you have to take them loose to get the lower calipure bolt.

on the pads I would research that a bit as I think you can't just compress the calipure piston like normal. I have read you need to do it a bit different. I have not done this yet. I just had the rear brakes apart pulling the housing to build the rear up. that is the only part that would not be striat forward unless what I read was not true.

ok this is how you remove the calipers and caliper brackets

1. remove 13mm bolts that hold the caliper to the caliper bracket, you can tell the bolts i am talking about because they are threaded into the caliper slides ( the caliper slides have rubber boots covering them)

this pic shows the bolts I am talking about

2. after both bolts are removed use a prybar or screw driver to pry the caliper and pads from the calipr bracket

3. use a 1/2 inch rachet and 15mm socket and remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper bracket to the axle

4. compress the caliper piston with the special tool, you turn the pistons clockwise to rotate them back in DO NOT TRY AND COMPRESS THEM BACK IN ANY OTHER WAY...

5. install rotor

6. install caliper bracket and tighten both 15 mm bolts.

7. install pads into caliper bracket, then slide the caliper over the pads and bracket

8. install 13mm bolts and your done

the e brake cables do not have to be removed to do a brake job, that is the way to do it if you want to make the job very complicated and drawn out. it's much easier to remove the slide bolts ( you need to lube the slides anyways) then remove the caliper bracket bolts after the caliper is off.

I never messed with the ebrake cable when I was replacing a wheel stud a couple weeks back.. just did like svttech said, remove those 13mm bolts first, slide that caliper piece away, then you have clear access to that lower 15mm bolt.

I bought that little cubed shaped tool to recompress the piston, but it didn't fit no matter what way I tried.. I ended up using the rather crude method of taking a needle nose pliers and spinning it manually.. luckily I only had to do one full turn and it was fully back in.

make sure you get the proper tool for turning the pistons back in. i have the one from MATCO, some people use the cube thing, but i used it once and returned it, it was the biggest POS tool i have ever used.
