I'm in the process of re-doing the door panels on my latest '77. I've re-dyed them but the chrome trim is beyond hope. This is a standard set with the trim in an oblong around the door. (see pic)

Right now I'm thinking of either peeling the remaining chrome/plastic film off and either handpainting or using "chrome" pinstriping.

Anyone have tips or suggestions?

Thanks,

Francis

Instead of hand painting them you could always mask off the rest of the door and air brush it

I'm going to try my hand at making "new" panels for my Mach, and putting the current ones in storage for later- Not cutting my good clean panels for a set of speakers(Component set- mids and tweeters)- uh uh no way.

I've thought about making a new panel using my old one as a template for the holes, dimensions, etc. It couldn't be too hard... the door panels on the II's were fairly simple and one dimensional w/ exception to the accessories.

In my Black Coupe Im going to have all Black Interior except for a late 80's Mustang front seats (power) they are red carpet. So Im thinking of having All Black door panels and the chrome strip (which doesnt have any chrome on it) will be painted Red along with the speaker grills. Anyone have any RED Stock Speaker grills they dont need????

I had heard of someone using the chrome/mylar tape sole for styrene modeling work.

Turbo II: What color is the center of your door panel? Is it factory? Looks pretty good. I've been thinking about a 2-tone door panel in red and black. Red carpet, red and black seats and everything else black. The new RX8 has an optional interior like this.

76Cobra II: I would use black speaker grills with some sort of red trim. Maybe some red pinstripe tape on the horizontal strips?

Thanks for the replies, right now I'm leaniing towards using the chrome tape. I've never had luck with silver (chrome) paint in terms of durability..always seems to rub off on your fingers with time leaving tiny silver spots on everything.

78CobraII: The panels definetly aren't factory (sorry 1970Impala ) They used to be aqua. Now they are black with light grey in the center. The look reminds me of the earlier "pony" interior on the '65-'66. I've re-done the back seat to match and I'm in the process of doing the fronts. I'm going to remove the headrests and replace the vinyl piece in keeping with the older look. I'll post some pics when I've finished the fronts.

Here's the back:
