Ok I did the check and the pattern is as follows.the pattern is centered nice between the root and the top however the pattern is about 1/4 inch from the toe on the drive side(convex side) and the coast side is 1/8 to 3/16 from the heel. The backlash is now at 0.10 .In order to get the lash down from 0.15, I had to use one of the original ford shims (thick ones) combined with another small one, this was on the ring gear side and for the pinion side I used one of the shims from a kit that has the little carrier with numerous smaller ones loaded on to it that was the only way I could add to the ring side and subtract from the pinion side and still keep the difference that the original setup had.please any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not sure I would worry about the original setup, except to get some preload.

The pattern sounds ok. I use several books and manuals that I have that illustrate the placement of the contact pattern. It's hard to describe. It sounds like yours is at the heart of the teeth.

well from the writeups that I seen, they all pretty much seem to be saying that the pattern should be centered between the heel and the toe.as stated my pattern is right on as far as root and top.has anyone else had a pattern that was a little off center?
