4 years ago I put my 65 fastback and 57 chevy belair in storage and moved overseas. I bought a shipping container put it on my uncle's farm. I am moving back to the US this summer and I am having mixed feelings about opening up the container. My uncle prepped them for storage, so I am sure the engines will be fine. What I am really worried about is rust. The container is supposed to be watertight, but the air in Georgia is always humid. Should I be worried?

if they were properly prepared for storage, nice thick coat of wax left in place, etc. there should be little or no rust, except perhaps in areas where you cant prep, and the factory didnt do a good job of painting, or priming. for instance the cowl area of the mustang might have some surface rust. if you find surface rust, dont panic because it actually preserves the metal. if you find rust under the paint though, then worry about rust holes.

No, I didn't think of that! What kind of material would have worked for that long?

Good question...I was thinking of this stuff http://www.eastwoodco.com/jump.jsp?itemID=11165&itemType=PRODUCT but I wonder if a bunch of them would have made a difference over such a long period of time.

My uncle's farm is near Homer, but I last lived in Decatur.

I saw your thread on your 1/4 mile times and was encouraged that to hear what a stock 289 can do. Mine's also a stock 289 and I am looking forward to getting to the track with her when I get back.
