I got my car back a couple weeks ago from the shop with my new setup. I am having a lot of trouble getting used to the new power. I am not used to the rpm's climbing so quickly and keep redlining pretty bad. 1st and 2nd gear are my trouble. I have done it probably about 5 times now and seen the tach go to what seems like 6500-7k. My shift light goes off at 5800, but i still suck and cant get used to it. I am not sure and have to call the shop to see if the removed the rev limiter or not. But what does it sound/feel like when you do hit the limiter?

You will feel it cut the power, and youll hear the engine start "bouncing" off of it. It wont rev any higher. Its definatly noticable when you hit it.

6500-7k is no good for a 2v with stock internals (if thats what you have) pushing 400 hp.

yeah, ive felt that on other cars before, didnt know if it was the same on our cars. And my internals are still stock, thats why it worries me so much.

Could I have done any damage to anything internally even if it still runs and sounds fine to me?

Who knows...being as these engines are so weak to begin with when it comes to adding power revving it that high can't do any good for it that's for sure. I thought the limiter was at 6-6500max stock. So unless you've had it changed or adjusted it should be there I believe.

for some strange reason, the first shop i got a "tune" from removed the limiter. i swear i hit 8k at one point, and i went straight to the shop and said wtf? why would you ever remove a rev limiter, the least you could have them do is set it high. so to answer the question, yes they removed it if you hit 7k, and go right back and tell them to set it to 6400 and remind them why you need to have it set. just plain stupid of these guys to be removing them

ouch ouch ouch. I've bounced off it maybe 2 or 3 times in attempts to power shift and it was scary. However, I bounced at like 6,300, nowhere NEAR 7k. My god I think my car would have explewdid!!21!

i'm going in this saturday to ask them if they removed it. the annoying part is that i used to be able to adjust it myself as one of my user options on my xcal2 as with a bunch of other things, but for some dumb ass reason they removed all user options and i cant adjust anything with the new tune.

wow your situation sounds exactly like my old one. no rev limiter and not able to adjust the optional parameters.. any chance its evolution performance? i dealt with them for not long, lets put it like that. the guy who i go to now.. odly enough performance evolution.. has my tuner set wide open for me to adjust.. but he has limits on how far i can go with the air fuel and timing settings. that way i can easily adjust for myself. the reason i found why evo performance couldnt allow me to adjust my own settings, although he never admitted to it, was because he was not an official sct dealer and didnt have those rights.

Yea, thats not good....but your probably ok. I wouldnt worry about your engine, just please try and keep the RPMs to no higher than 6000RPM. Actually try and keep it from going into the stock redline (5800) and you will have more life from your engine.

Another suggestion would be to get on the car in 3rd until your used to the power...and get ues to 2nd, then try 1st.

Thats EXACTLY what I did with the busa....started in 6th (not much, just to feel it out), then 5th, then 4th and started really moving for short blasts. And I STILL cant hold it in 3rd....i have to let off lol. 2nd and 1st are out of the question. haha.
So far iv ran it to 150

I have a 02 GT that I bought with 30k miles on it, started modding it, had the rev limiter removed with a aggresive tune, and have turned 7500 several times on the stock bottom end. When I race I usually try to shift at 6300-6500, and heck the car now has 92k miles on it. And runs great! I don't care if I throw a rod or scader it, gives me a reason to swap to a 4v!

Not everyone can afford to have their top OR bottom end blow out on them.

I was reading on MPH's site and ran across a post by Tim answering somebodies question about the same subject. I guess its not good to hit the rev limiter once your boosted. It goes really lean and when under heavy load, basically bye bye motor. So i guess thats why my rev limiter was removed by my shop. I guess its a double edge sword because revving it up to where i was cant be good either.

hotmustang331: I am going to take your advice and just slowly get used to it in 3rd, then 2nd down to 1st.

Hitting the limiter is bad on a blown car. Also, even if your limiter wasn't removed, it is possible to shoot right past it with the amount of power you are making. On my car, I let a friend drive it and he nailed it in first... A BIG no no. He got off the gas right at 6K but the engine continued to 7K.

Solution....
Get some really fat rims and drag radials.
Or drive like a normal person.
