Hi, I'm new here. I just bought a new GT- and I am somewhat ashamed to say, I found the rev limiter twice already- or so I think.
In my old 'sporty' Japanese cars (4 banger!), the car faded clearly right before redline, so it was very easy to feel when to shift up. I've never had a v8, and this one spools up so fast its really quite amazing- and it *never* fades- so I'm having a hard time on downshifts 'feeling' the shift point. I kick myself pretty hard when I hit it, so don't bother doing it for me
Anyway, the one time I hit the rev limiter on my last car (once in the years I owned it!), it was almost like a feathering of the throttle- and you had to be really stupid to find it. With the Mustang the rev limiter is very aggressive- like letting up off the throttle sharply in low gear- is this the normal behavior of the rev limiter?
I'm also very surprised at how little redline this car accepts. The second time I hit it, the car was no more than a hair past 6k, if any.
Lastly- I'm a little concerned about screwing up my car. I assume a rev limiter is there just so that the car wont damage itself on a redline- but then again, I've never had a v8. Obviously, this is not something I'm going to do intentionally, but is this really bad for the car. Both Sales and Service and the manual insist that there is no 'baby-it' type break in period...
