I am replacing my stock fuel pump with a holley 255 in tank. Holley supplies a new plug and harness with the tank. The stock connectors from the sending unit do not fit into the holley pump. I am guessing I have to cut into the factory wires and splice in the new wires and plug. I am just wondering is this safe to do? Kind of a dumb question but is that a fire risk? Or do I just splice it and cover the splice with the new plastic connectors supplied with the kit. Thanks

Very little fire risk inside a tank really. The vapor concentration level is way too high. You could stand inside a tank and light a match and the match prob wouldn't even light really.

I'd solder the wires and heat shrink with fuel resistant shrink. Your biggest worry is the wires corroding from submersion and explosure to volitile chemicals in the tank.

Of course...don't solder IN the tank of course.

They make new pistons every day, so why worry?

Make sure you solder the connections and heat shrink them, pretty simple. No real danger as long as you are soldering away from the tank.

Its actually a new tank. I know not to solder near a tank. My question is if I dont have access to a soldering gun can I just clamp the wires with a wire clamper and the plastic wire sleeves and be done with it?

I did crimp style connectors on mine and it been good so far (knocking on wood). I solder and shrink everything I wire, but I was affraid the shrink tubing wouldn't take the gas and would come off or something? It was just cheap homedepot shrink stuff.

Most heat shrink is fuel/oil resistant. Unsure what HD has though.

I have heard of guys using crimps...but i'd also shrink over it as well...twice
