I've returned the 3.73 gears in my sig due to the fact that I'm gunna get 4.10's.

Now I want to know what you people think.. Who makes a better 4.10 gear for the 8.8" rear and why? Richmond is about $50 cheaper and I don't see what is so bad about them.

I run Richmond's and there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with them. People say they whine more than FRPP, but I have absolutely NO whine. They're great gears.

Yeah, they are probably just as good of a gear. But you will need to set pinion depth with a very expensive tool that only a few shops own.

With the FMS gears, you calculate the difference in pinion head thickness, and add/subtract the shims as needed. And you will not likely need a carrier shim kit b/c the backlash will probably come out within spec and not need any adjustments.

Whether or not you are installing them yourself, get the FMS ones. It makes it idiot proof, seriously.

i am with mo on this one. i have used frpp gears in every car, and have had no problems with them. they fit right everytime. friends have had some trouble with richmond gears as far as setting them up, but they worked great. so i would go frpp just for ease of installation.

FMS for the reasons Mo mentioned. I did my own gears, and I gotta think there is no reason not to use the Ford gears (even if someone is doing the install for ya.

I'm sure you can install ANYBODY'S gears and have them work well -- but the FMS are definitely easier. Easier = more chance of a good install the first time. $50 makes no difference in the big picture -- a good install does.

I once heard somewhere that it was richmond that was making FMS. Not sure if it's true though. Wouldnt be the 1st time Ford renames somebody else's product Ford Racing.

i second the motive gears, i've got motive 3.55's and i will be switching to their 3.90's soon. I and about 30 other Mustang guys around here swear by motive gears, no whine, quality piece, i love em. plus they are cheaper than both fms and richmond. get em from here $169 for 4.10's $158 for 3.90'swww.strangeengineering.net you will not regret it.

The whine is all about the install IMO. If you have the tools, choose whichever you want.

if you don't, get FMS.

I had a shop put gears in mine. I'm not thrilled with the Richmond gears.... I even had a buddy recheck the backlash a couple of years after the original install. He's a certified Ford Tech.... couldn't make the noise go away. If I were to change them, I would go FMS as well.

I don't know about $120, but you can usually find FMS gears for about $139 if you look around. Like I said earlier -- I think FMS is a better bet.

I have motives and no whine it is all about the installer. The reason FMS are eaiser to install is because if you have the original shimes you can just slap them in and waalaa your off. With motive and the others you may have to add or delete some shimes so you need you calipers & dial indicators ready..
