I am really suprised that no one is interested in road racing. I posted yesterday about a race up in north florida but no one responded or commented, why is that? Just no interestet? Straight Line or Die? Car not set-up for twisties?

I like road racing. Not much of a specator these days since the last time I was at a track was Road America when I lived in Chicago 15 years ago.

They're opening a nice track about 22 miles from me this spring though!

I actually bought this Fox because a lot of suspension work was already done to it and it seemed to be heading in the road race direction.

I'm hoping to start doing some auto-x and driving events at the new track this season.

LOL

I love the road racing. The GT series is my second favorite type of racing next the F1. I've never run my car out on a real road course (not the little cone set-up) but it seems like it would be a blast. In reality, I doubt either of my cars are up to it, especially in the braking department. I would imagine it's very demanding and would expose every single weakness the car and driver has. lol It would be a blast to take my car around Laguna Seca but I probably wouldn't survive.

Yeah I hear ya. My car is actually built way stronger for corner carving than my skills are. The brakes are probably the weakest point since I don't have huge calipers yet....next upgrade hopefully

I've got plenty of power and plenty of suspension.....but no race skillz. I'd love for someone with some skillz to get in my car and show me what she really has though

Seriously tho...I can throw it left and right and she'll take a lot. But I've never been on a road course and would love to see someone with some experience show up all the Beemers and Vettes that show up. I think this car could do it, but I'm not sure if my exp could do it.

One word, over and over again, "Practice! Practice! Practice!" Takes some time and it's harder than it use to be to beat up on some of the newer cars that show up, but you have to get your seat time it. Start with autocross then hit up some driving schools...And get some brakes on that car. Good luck and have fun!

I hear ya man. I was gonna take a EVO driving school in April....but its a cone course.

Check out the mods in my profile. This car was built for this chit. May not be the best of everything....but I think it would hang with non-stangs and I wanna whoop up on them!

I'm holding out for a driving training on the new course they're opening near me this season.....

Drive Bluegrass.com - Home of Bluegrass Motorsports Park

I might hit a few auto-x cone course this spring....but I really wanna drive that beotch!

I see the Maximum Motorsports website with the car they built and its times....not that my car is that good....but I know I can blow away some stock Vette's and Beemers if I was practiced with my car.

My ultimate goal is to build my car into a track car, but the funds just aren't there yet. I haven't put a dime into my suspension besides springs, and my brakes are the same pathetic '85 brakes it's had for 24 years.

Honestly, lately i've REALLY been thinking about saying screw it and yank the swaybar and get some 90/10s and a set of Welds and going full blown drag/street with it since it's not likely that i'll ever road race it. Road racing is more expensive and harder on the car, and with 2 drag strips within 30 minutes of my house, it's just too easy and still loads of fun.

Plus, when i wanna hit the corners, i've still got the Merkur, which will already out handle the stang as it is.

You pretty much gotta go one way or another. Drag or corners. But don't forget about the new Bluegrass track! Or the SCCA events around your corner. But your car is already set up for the drag I'd say. Mine is more for corners.

I still say we need some grudge matches. Lets do a 1/4 and a road race...yours vs. mine.

Bring the Merkur to some of the local events! I'll bet you some cash your Merkur vs. my Fox on some local auto-x events.

You probably make plenty of power to make up on the straights for anything the Merkur might have over you in the corners. It would have to be a tight autox setup for me to have a chance

I do have Merkur buddies who'll run ya though Oh, and i'll race you in the 1/4....bring it buddy

When i start putting money into the suspension, i'm getting 5 way shocks and struts and probably airbagging the right rear spring...hopefully that'll give me a good balance between cornering and drag. I'm also gonna be looking into making a quick disconnect setup for the front swaybar so i can just unhook it from the frame to drag and then connect it back for the street. We'll see how that goes..

If i had it my way i would slap an IRS in it and call up Griggs and have them throw the catalog at it, but we're talkin 5k+ just in suspension parts. They have a badass tubular K member setup that eliminates the shock towers alltogether and uses a double A arm setup. Their shop car doesn't even use a front swaybar because it bites so hard in the corners.

This is what its all about.

You'd prob get me on a 1/4. But lets meet and do eeet! It'd be fun to see what happens. Then we make a thread about it all!

I know all this chit cost lots of money. I got some heat for buying one setup like I did.....but how could you pass up a deal like I did.

Seriously tho....lets meet up on the 1/4 and go head to head. I guess you'll get me....but lets see what happens. I'm not the type to be a sore loser.

306 built

vs

Yours...

watcha got?

I'll call ya out.
