Has anyone replaced rod bearings while the motor was in the car. I have a faint knock that seems to be common in 4.6s my motor is 155k on it and runs very well. im going to pull the pan to inspect. has anyone caught a spun rod in time.

Even removing the oil pan is a PITA so honestly I think your best bet would be to take the engine out.

Removing the engine isn't too difficult of a task (can be done in a driveway/garage) and you should replace all bearings once inside.

If you support the engine from above and drop the K member the pan is right there.. It would be pretty easy once you have the K member dropped..
