I just had my 289 rebuilt and also installed a Crane hyd. cam and I also bought some 1.6 roller rockers to put on. When I set the roller rockers on, the push rods seam 1/8 of an inch to short at least. I'm not to sure how tight I need to tighten the rockers. It doesn't seam like I should have to tighten them down that much to make up for the gap. Also do I need to start with the #1 piston,I know it's at top dead center or does that matter? The push rods are also stock length. Any suggestions? Thanks:shrug:

You need to start with the #1 cylinder and make sure it's at TDC on the compression stroke. Adjust both valves. To adjust, take up all the slack in the pushrod, you can feel this by spinning the rod between your fingers. Then tighten another 1/2 to 3/4 turn. They will be set then. Next, rotate the crank 1/4 turn, then do the next cylinder in the firing order, and so on till you've done all 8. At this point the crank damper should be back on TDC of the #1 cylinder after turning the crank 1/4 turn after doing number eight. If the rockers won't stay set, you may have them pulling the pressed in studs with the bigger cam lift and spring pressure (if you didn't have screw in studs installed)
