Everyonce in a while Ill get a whiff of something that smells like rotten eggs at stop lights or when i pull up in my driveway. What can be causing this? I know that cats cause this but usually when there old and worn out. I only have about 12000 miles on mine.
Thanks
Pat

maybe something died in your car or some old food.

Or egg salad sandwhiches or deviled eggs or scrambled eggs.

I know most Asian cars have that, but didn't know of any domestics doing it Perhaps you have been behind an Asian car and it got trapped inside yours. My mom's 2000 Maxima was like that. Took it in and had a new cat put on and still did it.

That's because it was Asian. They use real cats.

How hard are you driving the car. Usually "unusual" smells happen when you run your car hard (something to do with roasting your catalytic converters).

The smell is sulphur and is a result of the catalytic convertor and the sulphur content in the petrol. Try switching to a low sulphur gas.

If it is really strong, your battery could be overcharging. That will make a rotten egg smell. Worth smelling around the passenger side of the car.

Good luck with your search.

True! My buddy had a monitoring system in his car as a test and it recorded numerous amounts of data. One of which was cat temp. He ws showing me that after a few minutes of normal driving his reached a temp of over 1200 degrees(he has an '07 Scion TC)!!!!! I was behind him and his has the burning "cat" smell also

I always smell that when I'm chasing down someone that's running hard and it's definitely from them. Once they slow down and drive normally things cool off and the smell goes away ghetto tech FTW!

I don't drive the car that hard, i mean yea I get on it every once in a while but thats it.. As for the gas..I get shell pretty much all of the time. Question: If i use 89 octane would that cause the rotten egg smell since i don;t have my car retuned?

i see you live in the chicago area. my car did this when i first got it... how often do you get to drive car at one constant speed, if you are stuck in that god awful crap that is called traffic and not running the car to clear the cats, it might just be the cats are getting loaded up with unspent fuel that never gets a chance to get pushed out. when you take off does a steady stream of water run out of your tailpipes? i would take it out on a weekend and out a couple hundred miles on it
and blow all the crap out of it.

cool, so SIU-C huh, I love Quatro's pizza. most recent trip down there was on wine trail trip in June. I loved it when Car Craft Summer nationals was in DuQoin, used to drive to Carbondale to do a little cruisin' and a whole lot of tire burning, plus love the girls that will flash you next to nothing. We used to have Car Craft summer nats here in Springfield back in the day, but i was like 12 when they left

at least now we have the Hot Rod fall nationals, and the Route 66 Mother Road festival. We had a Mustang Club of America show here in 07 and we had the GAnd National Show here in 05 i believe.

Yup SIUC! One of the best party schools out there, Plus the number one automotive school in the nation. I haven't been to Quatro's in a while but it is great pizza. And the girls....well....haha.....you get some drunk crazy freshman girls and they flash like its nothing!

The roads down here are perfect for cruising....Before my 07 I had a 01 600rr Honda
bike and i use to go on rides out into the country for hours, The landscape down here is gorgeous. Next time your out this way you should go out to Alto Pass, theres a winery out there and a huge cross on top of the hill. In the spring when I had my bike they had a mass up there and blessed us for a good riding season, Plus its a beautiful look out point.
