Hey guys, I recently bought a 95 Mustang, was a V6 and was converted to a 5.0 a few years ago. Anyway, when I first got it the car didnt seem to be running right, smelled very rich and the idle was pretty lopey, almost like it had a mild cam. The next day I broke down with the car, ended up being a bad distributor. Even after I put the new distributor in, the car still didnt sound/run like it should. I swapped MAF sensors with my 91 Explorer and now it runs much better. But I'm wondering if I should leave the Explorer MAF on there, considering it may not be matched for the Mustang's injectors. It still seems to idle rough even after cleaning the IAC, new cap and rotor, and a new coil. I'm wondering if maybe the plugs are fouled, havent checked those yet. Any help would be appreciated!

I'm really wondering if this MAF from my Explorer is causing any problems. Although it fits perfectly, and looks the same as my old one, could it be calibrated differently for for a V6?

The MAF on the 94-95 Mustangs are 100% identical. The computer makes an adjustment for the different injectors on the Cobra. As to the problem you're having, it's very likely the MAF sensor is dirty. You can take the plastic casing apart and you'll find a black sensor screwed onto the metal MAF. Remove the sensor and clean the wires CAREFULLY with a q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol. The wires are very easy to break, so be careful.

Clean the MAF wires until the q-tips come away clean - sometimes you have to use a couple of q-tips if it's really dirty. If the car still runs rich then the sensor has gone bad or the wiring going to the MAF is broken somewhere.
